Although Desert Roses Indian Arts officially became a family business in 2026, our story began more than 37 years ago with a first-generation silversmith, James McCabe

Known for his incredible attention to detail and of course, his famous Mercury Dime jewelry pieces, James has dedicated his life to preserving and perfecting the art of Native American silversmithing. His journey began at the age of seventeen when his older brother, Lou, introduced him to the craft. What started as a lesson from a brother soon became a lifelong passion. Over the years, James developed his own distinctive style, creating intricate and memorable pieces that have become treasured by collectors and families.

In 2026, after decades of working independently, James invited his family to help carry his vision forward. Together, we formed Desert Roses Indian Arts, transforming a one-man legacy into a family business built on patience and love.

Today, our team consists of six family members, including James, and proudly represents the traditions and cultures of the Navajo Nation, Taos Pueblo, Hopi, and Akimel O'odham (River People).

As we continue to grow, our vision extends beyond jewelry. We are committed to supporting and showcasing Native American art in many forms, including pottery and other traditional works. Most importantly, James is dedicated to teaching the next generation the art of silversmithing, ensuring that these skills and traditions continue for years to come.
